President/Principal
Bachelor of Architecture, 1970
University of California at San Luis Obispo
California License: C-8269
Daryl
Hawkins began his career at JHW Architects, becoming
a principal in 1974 and President in 1997. A native son
of Monterey, he has remained with the firm during his
entire professional life as an architect, a rare event
in the career of a design professional. Honing his talents
under the guidance of senior partners, Daryl found his
focus in the design and master planning of churches.
He guided Monterey’s Cypress Community Church through
four phases of growth, adding a classroom building and
Family Life center to the hillside sanctuary. Since that
time, Daryl has worked with over 70 churches of all denominations,
moving from the early stages of fiscal and financial
planning through design and construction. Some noted
examples are Gilroy Presbyterian Church, Marina United
Methodist Church, Apostles Lutheran Church (San Jose)
and Assembly of God, Seaside. Recent projects include
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Monterey, Eureka First Church
of the Nazarene, Monterey Institute’s Samson Student
Center and classroom improvements at CSUMB.
Daryl’s
lifetime devotion to the Nazarene Faith is demonstrated
by his participation and support of his own Living Hope
Church Nazarene congregation, where he has designed and
helped to build a sanctuary, office and classroom buildings.
He is currently a Vice President of the Nazarene Building
Professionals and serves on the Northern California Nazarene
Board of Church Properties.
Daryl
and wife Carol are active members of their church, and
may be found there most every Sunday, unless they are
visiting son Doug and his wife Larissa at their new home
in Washington State!
